The goddess Lakshmi is one of the most popular and revered goddesses in Hindu mythology. She embodies all-encompassing prosperity and happiness. With her energy aspects, we can connect with the abundance of being and our own love. She is concerned with material prosperity as well as physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Like a mother, she provides everything that living beings on earth need. On a spiritual level, she stands for all positive character traits and prana.

Lakshmi - purity and prosperity
Lakshmi connects heaven and earth, the whole. Through her power we can integrate the treasures of the earth, including inner wealth, inner abundance, inner beauty, and also include the spiritual treasures of heaven: Wisdom, knowledge and joy of life. We have the opportunity to draw from these treasure troves.

Lakshmi - the beneficent bringer of happiness
In one of the most captivating stories of Hindu mythology, the frothing of the ocean of milk, in which the gods work with the demons to obtain the elixir of immortality, the story of Lakshmi's birth is also told:Years the gods labored to froth the mighty ocean of milk. Then, finally, its treasures rose to the surface and, among others, Lakshmi appeared. Her presence enabled the gods to defeat the demons and chase them out of the world. History shows that Lakshmi blesses those with good fortune and success who truly work and sincerely ask for help. In times of success, we should never become complacent and arrogant as success can always be lost.

Depictions of Goddess Lakshmi
Lakshmi is always depicted as a young, beautiful and friendly goddess. Lakshmi is most often depicted sitting on a lotus flower or standing with four arms. Two arms are pointing upwards, each holding a lotus flower as a symbol of purity. Two arms are pointing downwards and her hands are assuming beneficial postures, the Varada Mudra, the wish-granting gesture, and the Abhaya Mudra, the protective and comforting gesture.

In many pictures, she makes it rain gold coins from a hand or an object onto the earth as a sign of her enriching and blessing powers. Other of her attributes are the conch shell, the prayer chain, candles, the Vedas and the Bilva fruit. This fruit, which has healing and rejuvenating powers, is also a symbol of the abundance and power of nature with which Lakshmi is associated.

When Lakshmi is depicted with Vishnu, she sits at his feet and rests on the world serpent Ananta. In these depictions, she is smaller than her consort Vishnu. Here she has only two arms and often massages his feet, which implies the symbolic aspect of creation. It is she who awakens the god after his cosmic sleep between two periods of world creation.
